2020. What a year.
As the world shut their doors in March, physical interactions became limited and the need for connection, information and entertainment was rife. What happened next? Society turned to social to build communities, businesses dipped their toes into eCommerce, many for the first time, and creators opted for mobile phones to shoot their latest campaigns. In short, there's no denying the impact social has had in maintaining some sort of normality in the chaos that's been 2020.
However, social hasn't been without its critics. In 2019, social platforms were in the crosshairs for many, condemning the lack of regulation, the spread of misinformation, and the potential negative impact on mental health. Whilst these challenges are far from solved, the picture for social has become more nuanced in 2020, that's for sure.
"You're on Mute" seeks to explore the true value and versatility of social by looking at the opportunities it's given people when they had nowhere else to turn. It's about proving the critics wrong, and showcasing the true potential of social, despite its imperfections.
